Do I need a code to start my exam?

Virtually proctored exams with Honorlock will not require an access code or password to begin. As a reminder, taking college-level exams in an online environment requires maintaining academic integrity. If your institution does not offer in-person proctoring, you are required to use Honorlock to complete your exams independently and entirely online. A valid picture ID will be required to be clearly scanned in real-time before being admitted into an Honorlock session.

Please note for those who may have in-person proctoring available at their school, that exam passwords or access codes will only be requested by authorized teachers and administrators at support@tel-education.org.

Warning
Experiencing Multiple Failed ID Scans?
Please note that virtual proctoring with Honorlock will require students to successfully scan a valid ID, which must include a photo, for identity verification purposes.

How? The system matches the person on-screen with the ID scan in real-time to allow admission into the exam. If Honorlock does not detect a photo, this process may fail. If the scan continues to fail a few times, a live proctor may pop in to verify any unclear scans.
Honorlock accepts most government-issued IDs, such as driver's licenses or passports, or student IDs with photos for virtually proctored exams only.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. Q: If students do not have an ID with a photo included?
    1. A: Our TEL support team may need to arrange an alternative accommodation for the student at support@tel-education.org to ensure that Honorlock permits an exception.
  2. Q: What to do if the scan keeps failing and no one intervenes to admit you into the exam?
    1. Student can use the chat bubble or select the three vertical dots on the right side of the toolbar, which will provide Honorlock chat support to gain further admission to begin.
Using an Honorlock QR Code: Students may also use a QR code provided by Honorlock and scan from a secondary device (or computer) to upload an image of their government-issued or student ID ahead of time. This method can be used to verify your identity and gain admission to an exam after a short waiting period. However, if a secondary device is used this must be stored away or turned off immediately after this verification check is complete.

To display the QR code, ensure you click the three little dots on the ID verification page in Honorlock. Here is a guide on using the QR code to verify your ID instead of the scan: https://honorlock.kb.help/how-to-complete-id-verification/
