Student Privacy Policy: FERPA Guidelines
FERPA gives students full control over their academic records and helps protect educational privacy. It also encourages students to take responsibility for managing their own academic progress, communication, and support. All students taking a college-level course have their records protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), even if they are under 18. This means as a course provider, TEL Education, cannot share details like grades, progress, or attendance to unverified contacts unless the student has given written permission through their credit-granting university. Student Ownership
Once enrolled, only you (the student) can access or discuss your course information, including:
Grades
Assignment feedback
Progress and submissions
Use Your Verified Student Email
If you need help, please contact our support team using your primary email associate with your account. We can only share student-specific information through your registered student email for security and privacy reasons.
What a FERPA Waiver Does (and Doesn’t Do)
You may choose to submit a FERPA release through your credit-granting university. This allows the university to share limited information with a parent or guardian. Important Disclaimer: TEL Education is not your credit-granting university.
However, even with a waiver, parents or guardians are not allowed to:
Contact instructors directly
Attend virtual office hours
Submit assignments on your behalf
Request or negotiate changes to grades
Need Help?
If you have questions about FERPA release process or need further assistance, feel free to contact us from your registered student email at support@tel-education.org.
