How do I write a conclusion paragraph for an argumentative essay?

The conclusion to your essay will reflect the ideas from your introduction.  Use the hook of your essay to bring your essay to a close.  Remind the reader of where the essay started.  Restate your thesis using different words, briefly summarize the main points of your essay, and draw in the feelings and emotions of your reader to help evoke a change.

Include

  • The “big picture” - Explain the implications of not making a change expressed in your essay.  Explain what might happen if a change is not made and how it might impact the reader/a group of individuals/the global community.

  • Explain what happens if a change is made.  If possible, use real-world examples to strengthen this position.

  • Call the reader to action!  Tell the reader what they need to do next.  Now that you’ve convinced them you’re right, what will they need to do next?  Change the way they think, how they feel, what they believe, or how they act.  Be sure to appeal to the reader’s emotions using logic, morals, or beliefs.
