How do I write the results section of a lab report?

This section briefly describes the information presented in the data section.  Explain what the data represents and summarize the results here.  Be careful not to analyze the information in this section. 


To begin this section: 

  • The results of the lab show that ___. 

  • The data from the experiment demonstrates ___. 

  • The independent variable ___ increased/decreased as ____ . 


To explain the results of a graph without analyzing try: 

  • Explain what information the graph represents, i.e. explain the variables used and reported on. 

  • Then, describe the overall findings represented in each graph. 

  • Next, highlight significant events, outliers, clusters of data points, etc. 

  • Finally, explain any key detail from the graph/chart/table. 

  • Repeat this process for each visual provided in the data section.
