How do I write an effective transition?

A transition sentence should be subtle in its delivery rather than blatantly obvious; i.e. In the next paragraph, I will talk about [main point].  The transition is meant to “glue” the main points together to portray the logical flow of ideas in relation to the thesis statement. For example:

Paragraph A: The COVID-19 pandemic mandates were meant to promote reducing the spread and keep cases low.

Transition: However, an increase in sedentary lifestyles due to the restrictions contributed to an increase in obesity, which in turn, was a major factor in contributing to overall COVID-19 cases itself.

Paragraph B: The mandates promoted a reduction in the spread, but in actuality contributed to the overall cases as people made different dietary and general lifestyle choices due to the restrictions in movement and choices in retail options which resulted in a higher obesity rate.

Transition words are used to move your ideas along within your writing.  Using these signals to the reader that you are moving to a new topic or a new idea.  When writing, use these as sentence starters throughout your writing.  For more information about using transition words effectively in your writing, check out this link for a video explanation and the chart below.
